Throughout my years developing leaders globally, I’ve found that the most powerful driver of performance isn’t fancy incentives, it’s addressing the fundamental human needs that fuel motivation.

Here’s the proven framework I use to help leaders transform team energy and engagement:

1) UNDERSTAND THE BASICS : Research shows humans have three universal needs that drive motivation and well-being:

i) Autonomy: The feeling of control over their work and decisions
ii) Relatedness: Connection and value from others
iii) Competence: Confidence in their abilities and growth

2) ASK THE RIGHT QUESTIONS : Start meaningful conversations that uncover what’s truly driving or blocking engagement:

“Do you have enough freedom to make decisions in your role?” “How connected do you feel to the team and our mission?” “Are you able to use your best strengths each day?”

3) TAKE TARGETED ACTION: Armed with insights, create daily leadership practices that build an environment where motivation flourishes naturally.
